Shelia Hall Spoke 7/27/09

Shelia Hall was our guest Speaker last night and she gave us a very interesting visual on Healthy Foods versus Bad Foods. Panty Hose were used as representative to our digestive system one side healthy the other side non-healthy. It was interesting to see that the healthy side seemed to not get backed up, where as the unhealthy side, she continued to cram food down even at times using her hand to shove the food down.

Interesting how when we eat unhealthy food, we tend to get hungry faster and continue to jus shovel in the food, just as Shelia was doing with her demonstration. Although healthy foods are not always the convienent food they are by far the best for us.

When you looked at the unhealthy side and saw the food that was just sitting there it made you wonder what that food does to your digestive system, releasing unwanted toxins in your body that could lead to diabetes, cancer, high-blood pressure.

I will always think when I am faced with choices of unhealthy food or healthy food by thinking of the panty hose visual...

CURVES Weight Management Plan

Curves Weight Management

Tired of dieting? Curves introduces a FREE weight loss solution that'll fit you for a lifetime.

Introducing the Curves Weight Management Plan. Whether you're ready to start losing weight, need to boost your metabolism, or just want to learn more about healthy eating, Curves offers classes to meet your needs. To learn more or to find out when the next class is, contact Shelia Hall at 281.328.4600 or email her at curveyshelia@yahoo.com.

What's different about the Curves Weight Management Plan?

Many women have a list of diets they've tried over the years and the one thing these diets all have in common is that they often fail. Why? They leave you hungry and deprived, and they slow your metabolism, setting you up for a never-ending cycle of yo-yo dieting. The Curves Weight Management Plan changes all that. Here's how:

It Revs Your Metabolism

This is perhaps the most significant aspect of the Curves Plan, and it's what allows you ultimately to be delivered from dieting for good. With a higher metabolism, you burn more calories all day long — even when you're sitting on the couch. The Curves Plan raises your metabolism through eating — yes eating — and strength training, which builds calorie-burning muscle.

It Allows You to Eat

On the Curves plan you eat all day long — five small meals rather than three large ones. This helps keep you from feeling hungry even during the low-calorie phase of the plan, which lasts only one week, and it keeps your metabolism revved. After every 30 days of dieting, you will have a short break to maintain your current weight and boost your metabolism.

It Offers a Wide Variety of Food

Curves has 2 diet solutions; one is higher in protein and one is higher in carbohydrates. The protein intake ranges from 30% to 45% depending on the solution that you choose. The plan recommends limiting your intake of refined carbohydrates and sweets, but no foods are off-limits. The meal plans are so easy to follow — no counting is necessary! You will simply choose 3 meals and 2 snacks from the recommended list. This plan also has a simple food exchange system built in so that you can easily substitute or build meals that appeal to you.

It's Healthful

Diets that deprive you of certain foods also deprive you of the nutrients contained in those foods. Because the Curves plan not only allows, but encourages you to eat a wide variety of foods from all the food groups, your diet will be rich in the nutrients your body needs. It's a Diet You Can Stick With By now, you've probably already figured this one out. The Curves meal plan satisfies your hunger, your taste buds, and even the occasional less-than-healthful craving, making it easier to stay on track.

It Provides Permanent Results Without Permanent Dieting

Up to 95% of dieters fail to maintain weight loss with conventional programs because they can't diet forever. With the 30-day diet you will learn to maintain weight loss as you progress. When you reach your goal weight with the Curves Plan, you will know exactly how to maintain it for life because you have had practice after every 30 days of dieting. And the Curves Plan doesn't require that you diet for life to maintain your goal. When you reach your goal, you will eat a healthy diet between 2,000 and 2,500 calories without regaining weight.

It Works

Does it all just sound too good to be true? Under the direction of Richard B. Kreider, PhD, FACSM, scientists at Texas A&M University have put the Curves Fitness & Weight Management Plan to rigorous testing, scrutinizing its effects on hundreds of women just like you. The results? Curves works. Women on the Curves plan have lost weight, boosted their metabolism, lost body fat, gained muscle, and enjoyed other healthy benefits.

But don't take it from us. Take The Curves Weight Management Class, a unique nutrition program where you'll learn to lose weight and keep it off for good.

Its a Gay Gut Buster

Do you want to shed those winter pounds and get in shape? Sure, you can apply to The Biggest Loser and have a national TV audience watch as you get voted off the show, or you can sign up for a free, 12-week community weight-loss program in Montrose. And nobody gets voted off the island.

The Montrose Community Meltdown is the brainchild of Josh Price, a guy who knows a little something about weight loss and reality TV.

Houston native Price headed to Hollywood in 2004, working as a production assistant on TV shows and as the casting director on Ryan Seacrest's 2008 Mamma's Boys, a sort ofBachelor -with-mom's-approval reality show. Price returned to Houston to work on two national court shows that film here at Fox 26: Cristina's Court and Judge Alex.

“I finally got out of the business,” Price says. “I retired at 28! Too many long nights and broken cell phones.” Now, he runs a personal concierge service, and he is fighting the battle of the bulge, and that's why Price got the idea for a community meltdown.

“I've battled obesity my whole life,” says Price. “I've been up and down. I'm up now, and I think the only way for me to combat this problem is to be responsible and motivate others in the community.” That, and inspiration from his mom who works in the fitness industry—coupled with an insider's knowledge of reality TV—has lead to the Montrose Community Meltdown. Those who sign up for the free program will find themselves experiencing something akin to The Biggest Loser, working with trainers at area gyms that are sponsors and attending motivational meetings at the Montrose Counseling Center. And yes, Price will use his Hollywood connections to bring in some big-name speakers. But the bottom line is about the community helping each other lose weight.

“We're hoping for more than 300 people,” Price says. “And everyone is welcome—gay, straight, whatever! Obesity is such a problem in this country today, we really need to address the problem and do something about it.”

As for Price himself, he's hoping to lose 60 pounds during the 12-week challenge.—Marene Gustin

Montrose Community Meltdown is a free, 12-week course which starts in July. You can sign up now at montrosecommunitymeltdown.blogspot.com and follow the fun on FaceBook, MySpace, and Twitter. Price is hoping participants will blog, post, and upload photos to share their inspirational weight-loss stories.

OUT SMART MAGAZINE TO DO ARTICLE

Out Smart Magazine will be running an article about the "Gay Gut Buster Event",  The Montrose Community Meltdown.  We are excited to be bringing this free event to the community.  We still need volunteers to help with the organization, and we are still seeking sponsorship!  If you or someone you know would be interested in helping out with a great cause, tell them to e-mail us at montrosecommunitymeltdown@gmail.com  We should be finalizing a couple of gyms that everyone will be given free access to during the 12 week challenge.  I have placed a call into the local food banks about matching our Pound Pledge, however much weight we loose as a community they will match that and donate it here locally.

Lets get pumped up and fight the battle!

With your health and heart in mind,

Josh

Montrose Community Meltdown

Montrose -- Montrose Community Meltdown. If you are ready to get serious about taking charge of your health. We are ready to help. We are organizing a community meltdown challenge and you are invited. If you can say yes to having fun and getting fit with your family, friends for free keep reading.

Three quarters of us in America are overweight, and childhood obesity is increasing at an alarming rate.

It is predicted by the diabetes association that by the year 2030 there will be 70 percent of Americans diagnosed as having diabetes. New studies also reveal that in some young children they have the arteries of an 45 year old adult.

With all of this being said,I am currently putting together a panel of professionals from our surrounding area to come and teach us on a weekly basis. Our community meltdown will be a 12 week program. I am working with local fitness centers to offer guest passes that will allow you to workout for free while participating in the community meltdown.

Our weekly meeting will be fun, motivational and very educational and my goal is to leave no one in our community behind. Everyone is invited.

We will be announcing the date, location and time soon. However, I need to hear from you on your level of interest in participating. You can email me at: montrosecommunitymeltdown@gmail.com.

Together we can start a Revolution of health, well-being and getting fit together. You too can be a Big Looser.

With your health in my mind and heart,

Josh Price
